STEM Professional Development for Teachers

Biomimicry: The natural way to teach STEM

Bring STEM learning to life using nature as the inspiration for sustainable design in this FREE best practice professional development opportunity.

Nature has been problem solving for 3.8 billion years. Biomimicry taps into this knowledge, inspiring students to connect, observe and discover the natural world, through science inquiry, to develop design ideas that help people and the planet.

Teachers will learn the biomimicry teaching framework and practical skills needed to bring this real-world design process to their students.

Covers the following Australian Professional Standards for Teachers:

  • 2.1 – Content and teaching strategies of the teaching area(s).
  • 3.1 – Establish challenging learning goals.
  • 3.3 – Use teaching strategies.
  • 6.2 – Engage in professional learning and improve practice.

The Gardens offer Biomimicry programming to students from Foundation to Year 10 (see below for details). We will also be running a FREE online Biomimicry design challenge event for Year 5 -10 students during Science Week! Details are to be released in May. This professional learning session will prepare teachers to support Biomimicry learning in the classroom and beyond.
