Botanical fabricators

We work with fabric crafts (hand sewing, machine sewing and embroidery) using materials or designs featuring and highlighting the beauty of Australian native plants.

WHEN WE MEET

Come and join us, all are welcome. We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 10am to 1.30pm in the Maud Gibson Room (which is near the RBG Cranbourne Office). Tea or coffee is provided, but BYO lunch.

FABRIC CRAFTS AND QUILTING EXHIBITION

Our 4th Fabric Crafts and Quilting Exhibition was held in the Visitor Centre of the Australian Garden from Saturday 1 March through to the Labour Day holiday on Monday 10 March. This year the exhibition was held in the Auditorium and also in the Gallery area behind the Reception Desk.

Over 2000 people attended, including local residents, visitors from throughout Victoria, plus several from interstate and overseas. Some were of course visitors to the Australian Garden who found the exhibition as a bonus, but there were also many people who came specifically for the exhibition and had not previously visited the RBG Cranbourne.

The Garden Explorer vehicle was kept particularly busy, and on a couple of days struggled to cope with the number of people seeking a tour. The Gardens Shop and Café were also very well patronised during the ten days of the exhibition.

Leesa Chandler from Chandlers Cottage very kindly donated a large queen size quilt to be raffled by the Friends to assist the ongoing development of RBG Cranbourne and the winning ticket was no. 0775, held by Veronica Capper of Rosebud. Second prize went to ticket no. 1220 held by Janelle Bowerman of Rowville, and Pam Ebbott received the third prize with her ticket no. 2401.

Proceeds from the sale of items made by the Botanical Fabricators group, the quilt raffle, a generous donation from Leesa Chandler and over $400 placed in a donation box during the exhibition have resulted in an excellent total of over $7000.

Many thanks to all who assisted during the exhibition and to all who supported the Friends of RBG Cranbourne through the purchase of raffle tickets and selections from the large range items made by the Botanical Fabricators group.

Update

After this very successful Fabric Crafts and Quilting Exhibition, members of the Botanical Fabricators are now hard at work once again, replenishing their stocks in readiness for another exhibition in autumn 2015.
