We work with fabric crafts (hand sewing, machine sewing and embroidery) using materials or designs featuring and highlighting the beauty of Australian native plants.
WHEN WE MEET
Come and join us, all are welcome. We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 10am to 1.30pm in the Maud Gibson Room (which is near the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne Office). Tea or coffee is provided, but BYO lunch.
The 5th Australian Textile Exhibition will be held in the Visitor Centre of the Australian Garden from Saturday 28 February through to the Labour Day holiday on Monday 9 March, from 10am to 4pm each day. The Exhibition will fill the Auditorium and also the Gallery area at the Reception Desk.
Featured will be fabrics and designs by Leesa Chandler from Chandlers Cottage, Beaumaris and the Exhibition will include a display of Australian flora and fauna inspired quilts from all over Australia. There will also be demonstrations by some of Australia’s leading quilting and textile experts.
Leesa Chandler has again very kindly donated a large-size quilt to be raffled by the Friends to assist the ongoing development of RBG Cranbourne. ‘Wattle and Gum’ are the fabrics featured in this year’s quilt, while Carlene Gosbell has used a floral fabric from the recently released ‘Under the Australian Sun 3’ range to make a stunning bag which will be the second prize. Raffle tickets will be available from 11 December, for 3 months until the date drawn.
Entry to the Exhibition is free, but do bring your wallet or purse, as there will be a wide range of items available, including fabrics, patterns and kits from Chandlers Cottage and products made by the Friends of RBG Cranbourne, all with the theme of Australian flora and fauna.
